My Origin Story: Amanda Spann
Generation Titans' "My Origin Story" is part of ongoing series to feature talented, innovative, and dope entrepreneurs of color (EOC). We are providing a platform where founders and creatives can tell their stories in their own voice and in their own unique way. These stories are not highlight reels, although they do highlight success. Also, these stories are not focused on only the hardships, obstacles, and racial inequality that entrepreneurs of color face, although they do squarely address these challenges. Today, Generation Titans catches up with Amanda Spann to hear more about her origin story and her journey as an entrepreneur.
Stories like Amanda's are American stories that push the culture forward, spark conversation and connections in the startup ecosystem, and also inspire a younger generation of entrepreneurs. These stories and the founders are a counter narrative. Through "My Origin Story," Generation Titans is proving that the pipeline of EOCs exists--despite the media's prevailing deficit narrative about entrepreneurs of color.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
WHAT IS ONE THING THAT SOCIAL MEDIA WON'T TELL US ABOUT YOU?
I don’t really take myself too seriously. I’m a ambivert who loves people and to laugh but gets her energy from within. But let Facebook tell it I’m a tech junkie who hates men lol
WHAT IS Happii AND HOW HAS YOUR JOURNEY AS A FOUNDER SHAPED WHAT YOU'RE DOING AS AN ENTREPRENEUR?
Happii is my startup studio. For the past few years I’ve partnered with aspiring founders with great ideas to bring their visions to life. Being a founder actually better positions me my current and next aspirations in entrepreneurship. I aspire to help people actualize their dreams and because I learned about tech, development and business the hard way, it enables me to empower them so they don’t have the same experience.
WHAT HAS DRIVEN YOU TO DO WHAT YOU're DOING NOW?
I think I realized pretty early on that God called me to assist other people in pursuing their dreams, however it wasn’t until recently I found ways to do that without overextending or giving too much of myself.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF?
- Move out of the country, you can always come back
- Focus on the recurring revenue streams, not the money itself
- Self-care is a habit that takes practice
- You are a brand, get in the habit of treating yourself like one
WHAT BOOK(S) ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I just bought The Million-Dollar-One-Person Business by Elaine Pofeldt
WHAT ALBUMS OR SONGS DO YOU CURRENTLY HAVE ON HEAVY ROTATION?
BARDI! No but seriously…whole album is a bop. The Eric Bellinger album is good vibes too. 80% of the time listening to 90’s R&B though. I never tire of it.
